The Art of Plastic Pollution

Conscious is a photography and art project that reflects on the impact of human actions, especially plastic waste on our planet, oceans, and wildlife. Through this work, I want to bring attention to an issue that affects all of us, using photography as a way to connect, not just inform.

The intention behind this project is simple: to encourage awareness and small changes. To pause, to think, and to become more conscious of how we use plastic in everyday life. Refusing single-use plastic, reducing consumption, reusing when possible, and recycling correctly are small steps, but they matter.

Plastic pollution affects every living being on Earth. Globally, less than 20% of plastic is recycled. Almost half of all plastic produced is designed for single use and then discarded. Every minute, close to one million plastic bottles are sold, and a significant part of this waste ends up in our oceans. Each year, up to five trillion plastic bags are used worldwide.

While visible waste is already a major issue, microplastics are even more dangerous. These tiny particles, formed through the breakdown of plastic, are often mistaken for food by marine life, entering the food chain and causing long-term harm.

In this series, I use four female figures to represent both human and animal vulnerability. The images are inspired by documentary realities but expressed through a fine art approach blending fact with visual interpretation. The use of blue and white tones reflects both the ocean and a sense of clarity, but also fragility.

This project was created in 2018, but its message remains just as relevant today.

All artworks from Conscious are released as limited editions, and a percentage of each sale is donated to the Save The Med Foundation, supporting environmental initiatives and the protection of the Mediterranean.
